More than 100 wines from 13 Portuguese producers, including three with Certified Sustainable status, were presented earlier this week at the Wines of Portugal Macau 2025 Grand Tasting at MGM Macau.
The event attracted over 200 industry professionals and wine enthusiasts from the Greater Bay Area, highlighting Portugal’s diverse wine regions and unique indigenous grape varieties like Encruzado and Baga.
A Masterclass, attended by more than 50 participants, was conducted by Wines of Portugal Educator Sofia Salvador.
Two Portuguese winemakers, Jorge Serôdio Borges of the boutique Douro estate Wine & Soul and Simão Baptista Cardoso from Quinta de Valbom and Herdade dos Grous in Alentejo, shared insights into their craft.
Organized by Wines of Portugal, the national wine marketing body, the event emphasized the significance of the Greater Bay Area market.
“Macau serves as an important showcase for Portuguese wines, especially for mainland Chinese tourists,” said Salvador.
Four exhibitors sought local representation, with Carlos Mendes Moreira, founder of Enopartner, highlighting Macau’s deep-rooted connection to Portuguese wine.
Portugal’s wine and tourism industries continue to gain global recognition, with three estates ranking among the World’s Best Vineyards 2024 and multiple wins at the World Travel Awards 2024. Staff Reporter
