The Chief Executive Chui Sai On met Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang yesterday after receiving his official appointment decree from the Chinese State Council.
The president has asked for “better work” from the new Macau government following the “new changes” that the territory is facing.
Xi Jinping said that the changes the city is facing, caused by internal and external factors, require the government to “analyze the situation and make plans,” as well as “promote a sense of foresight and preparedness”.
“The internal and external environment of Macau has witnessed great changes that will require better work from the new administration,” according to Xi’s speech translated by Xinhua.
He told Chui “not to disappoint the central government and the Macau residents,” as well as to diligently perform his duties, improve the work of administration and advance the sustainable development of Macau.
The president also urged the chief executive to help the successful practice of “one country, two systems.”
Moreover, Xi congratulated Chui and said that the central government appreciates the work his administration has done in Macau, particularly in coping with various challenges, developing the economy, improving people’s livelihoods and enhancing communication with the mainland over the last five years.
In reply, Chui thanked the central government for believing in him and appointing him as the fourth CE. He said that the MSAR will keep the development of the economy and improving the livelihood of residents as a priority.
“Especially when it comes to the development of the economy, we put great emphasis on fostering talents and the sustainable development of a diversified economy. Eventually, we want Macau to achieve long-term prosperity and stability, as well as a comfortable life for all residents”, he stated.
The CE also reported to the president that the University of Macau has moved into Hengqin and is on the path to becoming a first-class world university.
Before meeting Xi, Chui Sai On met the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and received his appointment decree from him.
The premier said that Macau’s development and the improvement of residents’ lives since the sovereignty handover are worth praising.
He has asked the CE to continue pushing for Macau’s sustainable development and facilitating a just and harmonious society.
He hopes that Chui Sai On can unite different sectors of the city under his leadership in order to realize the anticipation of the residents and some of the CE’s election promises.
Chui said that the government will listen to opinions more and put the public’s demand as a priority of the government.
Chui Sai On will start his new tenure on December 20, alongside his new secretaries. MDT/Agencies
Macau Government is doing a great job in improving the residents lives. I hope they will focus their priorities how to regulate house rentals, the property agents are taking advantage on the high demand but seems the Government could not do anything on this kind of abuse. Secondly, inflation of commodities happened everyday I hope the consumer council shall focus and regulate price watch accordingly. Thirdly the Labor Department should initiate the increase of the basic salary due to the rapid inflation.
Lastly, if the low class people in China became middle class and the middle class became upper class they balance economic growth but what happened to Macau middle class residents goes down to lower class or to poverty because of the false balance of the economic system and lack of proper regulations resulting to liberal inflation. thank you
