Macau registered a total of 362 reports of suspicious transactions from the casino operators in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, up 1.7% from 356 in the same period last year, according to data provided by the Financial Intelligence Office.
The suspicious transactions filed by the local casino industry amounted to around 55.3% of Macau’s total dubious transactions from January to March this year.
This figure was followed by 30.0% from financial institutions and insurance companies, and 14.7% from other institutions, the Office revealed.
The aggregate tally of suspicious transaction reports received by the office in Q1 2021 totaled 654: an increase of 7.92% year-on-year.
The yearly uptick, the Office said, was predominantly driven by the increase in the number of suspicious transactions reported by other institutions. HT
