22 direct-election nominee applications confirmed, two drop out

 

The nomination committee application period for the 7th Legislative Assembly election ended yesterday, gathering a total of 27 applications. The Electoral Affairs Commission (CAEL) has received 22 applications for the direct elections and five for the indirect elections. Two applicants, meanwhile, have given up their standing for election. The commission will make a decision on whether to certify or refuse to certify the legal status of the nomination committees by no later than June 24.

Communal association give-away attracts crowd

The Jiangmen Communal Association held a giveaway over the weekend to celebrate the Centenary of the Communist Party of China. According to a report by local news outlet All About Macau, the event attracted a long queue where social distancing requirements were mostly ignored. The news outlet noted in a social media post that even police officers deployed at the event were ignored when they reminded people to remain at a safe distance.
