The exhibition entitled “The Mastery of Shipbuilding – Fishing Junk Models by Wan Chun” which was organised by the Historical Archives of Macau under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be inaugurated today at 6 p.m.
According to a press release issued by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, several fishing junk models crafted by experienced local shipbuilder Wan Chun will be exhibited. Wan Chun crafted several miniatures of fishing junks from memory, drawing on his shipbuilding experience. The end result is a series of life-like miniature fishing junk replicas.
It has been noted that shipbuilding is a traditional industry in the region, established over one and a half centuries ago. At the end of the last century, due to the high level of technical expertise of local shipbuilders, Macau emerged as a sizeable shipbuilding centre of wooden fishing junks in the South China Sea region.
The exhibition will be open to the public at the gallery of the Historical Archives from tomorrow until 9 April, from 10 a.m to 6 p.m except on Sundays and public holidays. Admission is free.
