Cardiovascular diseases are affecting the lives and health of Macau residents more and more local physician Mário Évora warned in a seminar held recently. He recalled that about 5,000 people die of cardiovascular diseases in Macau each year, making it the second main cause of death in the territory, after cancer.
In a seminar organized last weekend at the Macau Civil Servants Association, physicians Mário Évora and Ip Man Fai, from the Macau Cardiology Association, stressed that some of these diseases can be most common amongst the youth, as today’s pace of life is progressively accelerated.
Over half of the average 5,000 patients who die pass away due to coronary artery disease.
They recalled that as our pace of life is speeding up, we tend to put aside our health, which also makes the disease more common amongst young people. “We need to readjust our eating habits, partake in sporting exercises, and have regular check ups,” they added.
Currently, the disease is treated by mainly resorting to medicines, and surgery.
According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease is also amongst the main causes of death around the globe.
