Four gaming operators are seeking a combined MOP135 million in damages from former junket mogul Levo Chan as his trial in a local court began on Monday.
The former Tak Chun Group chairman’s trial commenced earlier with testimonies which spoke to the group’s side betting operations.
Four concessionaires including Wynn Macau, The Venetian, SJM and MGM are seeking damages from Chan and other defendants, claiming to have lost revenue due to Tak Chun allegedly allowing under-the-table betting at their VIP rooms.
Information from the Court of First Instance disclosed that Wynn Macau is demanding MOP48.25 million, while the Venetian is claiming MOP46.99 million.
SJM is asking for MOP35.65 million and MGM MOP3.83 million.
The Macau government is also seeking MOP575 million in damages due to the amount of taxes it lost due to the under-the-table betting.
During the trial on Monday, it was said that between April 2014 and June 2020, a total rolling chip turnover reaching the value of MOP34.9 billion was generated.
It subsequently led to illegal income of MOP1.5 billion; equivalent to MOP570 million or more of tax lost from the government’s financial perspective. LV
