UM sports facilities now open to the public

2-
As of yesterday, selected sporting facilities at the University of Macau (UM) are now available to the public, the Sports Bureau (ID) announced yesterday.
The facilities include a football field, an athletics track, an outdoor volleyball court, three tennis courts, two squash courts, four badminton courts, a swimming pool, a sports hall and a training hall.
The facilities will be open to the public out of school hours and out of specific hours reserved for Macau sports associations. A few courts, for instance the badminton courts, will be available only on Friday nights, Saturday afternoons, and the whole day on Sundays. In turn, the squash courts and the swimming pool will be open at nights, and during the whole weekend. Fees range from MOP5 to MOP30, depending on the facilities accessed.
According to ID, the facilities are now included within a public sports facilities network which was launched in 2006. Currently, there are 40 sports centers open to the public, including 19 located in the Macau peninsula, 11 in Taipa, and 10 in Coloane.
ID has also claimed to continue to seek more opportunities to cooperate with local schools and associations that meet the necessary conditions to be included into the network. By promoting cooperation, ID expects that the increasing number of eligible facilities may encourage more of the public to participate in sporting activities, and expects to promote a healthier lifestyle, as well as the concept of sports for all.
