Infrastructure | Six companies compete for LRT depot construction

The Transportation Infrastructure Office (GIT) on Monday accepted six companies’ tenders for the construction of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) depot.
A total of seven companies submitted tenders, with bidding prices ranging from MOP888,000 to more than MOP1.38 billion. One company eventually abandoned the bid.
The government will soon commence the evaluation of the final tenders. The construction period is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year and to create around 550 job opportunities.
The depot will occupy an area of about 130,000 square meters, and is located south of the Macau International Airport.
Last year, the government ended its contract with the previous contractor after the construction of the depot was delayed.
The depot project is one of five projects comprising the Taipa section of the LRT. It is situated east of the Cotai Strip and south of the airport, with the Avenida do Aeroporto to the west.
The depot will house an operations control center, a factory and maintenance building, a parking and cleaning area for trains, and a 600-meter train-testing track.
