The Macao Orchestra will present a chamber music concert of the 2015/16 Concert Season, “Neoclassical Music,” at Dom Pedro V Theatre on July 22, with music director Lü Jia conducting the concert for the first time, according to the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC). In the concert, Lü will showcasing a number of neoclassical works.
Neoclassicism in music is a concept of contradictions. While the innovative tonal harmony and complex use of instruments means that the composition differs from classical music, the melody and composition of such pieces nevertheless echoes baroque and classical music. Among other performances such as “Danses Concertantes” and “suites I & II for Chamber Orchestra,” Lü will present Alberto Ginastera’s “Concerto for Strings” in commemoration of the centennial anniversary of the composer’s birth. Tickets are on sale at Macau Ticketing Network outlets and are priced at MOP120 and MOP100, according to the IC.
