MGM China Holdings hosted a press conference for the “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational 2016” and a graduation ceremony for the second Junior Lion Dance Training Program yesterday at MGM Macau’s Grand Ballroom.
The operator announced November 12 and 13 as the dates for the Championship, introducing Macau’s first Female Traditional Lion Dance competition.
The announcement of the sixth edition of the championship was initiated by MGM chief executive Grant Bowie who played the traditional Chinese drum yesterday.
A certificate presentation session was hosted shortly afterward to congratulate the fresh graduates of the junior competition, which took place over the past eight weeks. A total of 75 graduates aged between five and 10 were awarded with certificates and souvenirs.
The competitions are launched with the objective of propagating the culture and tradition of the Chinese sport to a wider, local audience, especially younger generations in the city, according to a statement from MGM.
