MGM Macau, together with 17 properties under MGM Resorts International in the United States, participated in the global observance of Earth Hour on March 25 by switching off its non-essential lighting for an hour to raise awareness of climate change.
This included MGM Macau’s exterior lighting such as its illuminated signboard, façade floodlights and LED screen at the North-East casino entrance.
All treatment rooms at Tria Spa were also powered off and illuminated with ambience candles.
According to a statement issued by MGM Resorts International, the gaming operator – which includes MGM Macau – has saved more than 140 million kilowatt hours of energy in the past five years, which is equivalent to 73,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
The observance of Earth Hour is part of MGM’s Go Green Campaign, an internal two-
week event promoting environmental protection, which runs from March 20 to April 3. The campaign will also include a “Go Green Fair,” with fun games, prizes and environmental program information for employees to get involved in; a marine conversation talk educating employees on the importance of responsible waste and recycling habits to protect marine life; a tree planting and maintenance exercise; and a beach cleaning activity.
