Senna Fernandes not worried about more tourists driving in Macau

Before Friday’s press conference, Senna Fernandes said she was “not worried” about more tourists driving vehicles in Macau, in light of the mutual driving license recognition between Macau and mainland China, which is currently under consideration.

“I believe that the Transport Bureau [DSAT] had already done an evaluation when it proposed the policy. Therefore, I think we do not need to worry that much,” she said.

The MGTO head added that there have always been tourists who drive in Macau, and that several companies rent vehicles for this purpose.

“I believe that there will not be an immediate surge [in the number of tourists driving],” said Senna Fernandes.

“There were never too many in the past […] There are four tourism car rental companies, including the one which applied for the license recently.”

Senna Fernandes said the car rental segment of Macau’s tourism market “is mature” and “has been running for many years.”
