Sands China Ltd. has made a MOP1 million donation to six Macau tertiary institutions for scholarships and fellowships, which will benefit 100 students.
The donations were presented to representatives of the educational institutions during a cheque presentation ceremony at Sands China’s company office in September.
Since 2006, the gaming operator has contributed nearly MOP10 million toward scholarships and fellowships, including this donation, with nearly 1,200 students benefitting to date, as cited in a press statement issued by Sands China.
“It’s our company’s privilege to help nurture Macau’s local talent in co-operation with educational institutions. Through the successes of these students, Macau’s future in development and diversification as a world center of tourism and leisure will be in good hands,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd.
Lui Che woo prize awards three laureates
The LUI Che Woo Prize annual Prize Presentation Ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday.
The three laureates receiving the 2018 LUI Che Woo Prize are Mr. Hans-Josef Fell, the World Meteorological Organization and Pratham Education Foundation.
Dr. Lui Che Woo presented at the ceremony to commemorate the occasion.
“The three laureates this year share the same vision with the LUI Che Woo Prize. […] They are role models in their fields and have greatly contributed to the world, inspiring more people to participate and jointly create our future. It is our honor to have the three laureates attending in person tonight to accept the prize,” he said, as cited in a press statement.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam also gave a speech at the ceremony and extended her congratulations to this year’s winners.
“The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is proud to have this home-grown international prize built on Dr. Lui’s vision and generosity,” Lam said.
