Agnes Lam calls for Hac Sa protection

Lawmaker Agnes Lam has submitted an inquiry to the government requesting a long-term solution for the accumulation of garbage at Hac Sa Beach. Lam pointed out that the poor water quality recorded at Hac Sa shows that the Macau government needs to show significant improvements in marine and environmental protection. She asked whether the government could explain to the public how the large amount of trash appeared at Hac Sa Beach. Lam also wondered if there is a mechanism to help the local government enhance communication with neighboring regions on matters of environmental protection, hoping to see more measures being implemented in order to improve the local public’s marine protection.

Customs officer fined for negligence

An officer in the leadership of the Macao Customs Services has been fined for giving a pass to a batch of undeclared goods. The case was reported by the Commission Against Corruption in 2018. Recently, the Customs authority completed an internal investigation of the case and determined that the officer had failed to take an objective and cautious approach to the incident, meaning that his behavior was negligent and violated his obligation as a public official.   

MGTO holds Annual Marketing Meeting

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) convened its Annual Marketing Meeting 2019 this week, inviting 46 MGTO market representatives, consultants and representatives of promotional entities from around the world to report on their recent activities. At the meeting, MGTO Director Helena de Senna Fernandes briefed the representatives on Macau’s latest tourism situation, the latest developments in the Greater Bay Area and the lineup of major local events over the next two quarters. The representatives discussed their marketing schemes for next year, before visiting parts of the “Art Macao” international arts and cultural event unveiled this month.
