Amax International Holding, a shareholder in Greek Mythology, which runs a casino at the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel, revealed that it is setting up a special working committee to reopen the hotel within the next six months.
The company informed the Hong Kong stock exchange that it could continue to operate its casino that closed on December 31, 2015, reportedly to undergo renovation works. Amax added that they are particularly interested in resuming the VIP business at the Greek Mythology casino.
The special working committee will also work closely with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) to resolve the issues behind the hotel’s closure.
“The company could only conclude that appropriate actions must be taken after communicating and clarifying with government departments in Macau to make a detailed assessment of the overall situation,” added the group’s spokesperson.
Hotel operator Empresa Hoteleira de Macau criticized the government’s decision regarding the Imperial Palace’s closure due to public safety issues.
MGTO announced that the temporary closure of the hotel on Friday was based on “serious administrative irregularities which constitutes threats to public safety,” and hence this was the first time that a five-star hotel has been ordered to close down.
