Border crossings leap 9pct over Christmas

1-border-XinhuaImmigration authorities have presented the figures of the recorded movement of people crossing the Macau border’s seven immigration checkpoints over the Christmas season. A total of 3.3 million people crossed the borders between December 20 and 26 this year, representing a year-on-year growth of about 9 percent.
Around 1.1 million were tourist arrivals, representing a growth of 9.92 percent year-on-year.
In 2014, the total number of tourist arrivals reached 1.3 million for the period between December 20 and 28, representing a growth of 7.78 percent when compared with 2013.
The Border Gate continues to be the most popular checkpoint, with over 2.4 million people (73.16 percent of the total) crossing the Gate both ways.
There was also a decrease in the number of arrivals and departures via the Maritime Terminals of both Outer Harbor and Taipa (Temporary Ferry Terminal), while the Cotai checkpoint registered increased human traffic between the territory and the neighboring region of Zhuhai.  RM
