Briefs | Eight injured in bus accident

A bus collided with some roadside fencing at the Avenida de Amizade near the Grand Prix building yesterday, injuring eight passengers between 20 to 68 years of age, according to the Fire Services Bureau. The bus driver said about 15 passengers had been on board at the time. Six of the injured passengers, two men and four women, were sent to the central hospital and were discharged after receiving treatment. The front part of the bus sustained severe damage.

Guangdong: HKZMB will be ready in 2017

The Guangdong Transportation Department announced it is pushing forward seven of the province’s ongoing projects, so as to ensure that the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge will be ready to open by the end of 2017. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority deputy director Yu Lie said the remainder of the bridge’s construction will be completed within the year and that the main body of the bridge will be ready for use. However, Yu noted that the timeline for the bridge’s official opening is still being discussed between the authorities of the three regions.

SSM expects 30 dengue fever cases in one month

The Health Bureau (SSM) director Lei Chin Ion said that the five suspected cases of dengue fever reported on Saturday were dismissed after further testing. Macau has recorded eight dengue fever cases to date. Of these, five were infected outside the territory. SSM expects around 20 to 30 dengue fever cases in Macau over the next three to four weeks.

Chinese Orchestra season tickets on sale

The Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM) will commence its 2017-2018 concert season in September. Concert tickets go on sale today at the Macau Ticketing Network. The 2017-2018 Season Opening Concert “The Bridge” by Yan Huichang and the Macao Chinese Orchestra will take place on September 1 at the Macau Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium.

Review of Culture focuses on women in Macanese society

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) issued number 54 edition of its Review of Culture. The review touches upon issues such as the struggles of being liberated from the characteristics of the Macau-Shanghai migratory flow,  in a chapter dedicated to the role of women in the Macanese “Luso-Asian” society. Another chapter is dedicated to Chinese Classical Literature, and includes commented translations by the Chinese writer Zhong Rong. In addition, the review contains a historical examination of Alexander Hume’s panoramic scroll painting that gives visual insight into the history of the Canton Trade System (1757–1842), through which China controlled its trade with the West. Review of Culture is available at several local bookstores and is priced at MOP80.
