Briefs | Legionella bacteria found at hotel’s water system

Traces of legionella bacteria virus were found at The Parisian, for the second time, after samples were obtained from its water system. Forty samples obtained from water tanks, water pumping systems and swimming pools and fountains were legionella-negative. According to the Health Bureau, of the 21 other samples taken from some hotel room’s water outlets, one sample tested positive for legionella with a concentration of 200 CFU per SWAB, higher than the normal rate, which stands at 10 to 20. Four other samples from some toilets at the shopping centers, restaurants and changing rooms were also positive.

‘Certified Shops’ awarded to 1,000 stores

About 1,000 shops passed this year’s assessment made by the Consumer Council (CC) and were awarded the 2018 “Certified Shop” emblem.  The CC announced that 750 shops were graded B or above, and 11 of them were graded “Class A Certified Shops.” Over 1,400 “Adherents” were assessed and evaluated in 2017. Some 1,000 shops passed the annual assessment, including on-site evaluation, satisfactory complaint records, mystery shoppers, and are awarded the “Certified Shop” emblem for the next year.  Representatives of consumer organizations from mainland China were invited to participate in the annual assessment.
