Briefs | Over 80 evacuated from nursery

Over 80 people had to be evacuated yesterday morning from the postnatal nursery of the Conde de São Januário Central Hospital. This followed the dropping of a fire extinguisher onto the floor, thereby releasing a chemical that, according to a fire department source, could affect people’s health. According to a Health Bureau statement, at the time of the incident, there were 33 mothers, 34 babies and 20 workers in the affected department. All of them were “immediately transferred to other nurseries.” The Health Bureau also acknowledged that during the evacuation, two workers felt “slightly indisposed” due to chemical inhalation. The fire department announced that the fire extinguisher was still within its expiration date.
