CCAC to deliver electoral law amendment soon

The Commissioner Against Corruption, Andre Cheong, has announced his intention to deliver a proposed amendment to the electoral law by the end of October. He says that the amendment will tackle corruption in elections.
Associations and casino operators’ alleged practices of vote buying and intervention have drawn criticism throughout past elections, prompting the Commissioner into action.
The Commissioner hopes to submit the proposed amendment to the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Sonia Chan, by the end of the month. A public consultation on the matter could take place as soon as the beginning of next year.
“I think that the CCAC is still studying how to improve the law and relevant policies. We will submit an amendment, hopefully by the end of the month,” he said, cited by TDM, adding that residents have high expectations for tackling corruption in the SAR.
Macau’s next major political campaign will take place in 2017, when it will elect a new Legislative Assembly.
