With the curtain falling on the Winter Olympics in Beijing, and the Chinese team earning nine gold medals, four silver and two bronze – a record high, placing the team third in the medal tally – Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng sent his regards to the team. In a statement, Ho applauded the athletes on behalf of Macau, also highlighting the contributions made in China which turned a new page in winter sport. He went on to say that Macau was also closely connected with the games, which inspired patriotism. He pledged that the city will put its best efforts into hosting the National Games in 2025, in collaboration with Guangdong and Hong Kong.
Insurance agency offers Covid-19-specific policy plans
YF Life has announced that cash benefits and coverage for Covid-19 patients, as well as people suffering lingering effects from the disease or vaccinations, may be issued to clients on some specific policies. In a statement, the company noted that if the insured tests positive to SARS-CoV-2 within 30 days from the purchase of a relevant policy plan, they will receive a benefit of HKD10,000. Meanwhile, if existing individual policy holders with the company experience adverse effects from testing SARS-CoV-2 positive or from related vaccinations, they will receive a hospitalization subsidy, an out-patient subsidy and extra mortality coverage.
91% of Covid cases are Omicron variant
Since January this year, Macau has registered 23 imported cases of asymptomatic Covid-19 infection, of which 2 cases are the Delta variant (8.7%) and 21 cases are the Omicron variant (91.3%). The two Delta variant cases were recorded in early January, while all infections detected on January 7 and after are the Omicron variant. Health authorities urge people over 18 years of age who received their second vaccine dose more than six months ago to receive a booster dose as soon as possible.
