Melco Resorts & Entertainment will sponsor the Rural Congjiang County Outstanding Teachers Reward Program for two consecutive years with a donation of RMB500,000.
The initiative is part of the nine collective agreements arranged by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR targeting poverty alleviation in the mainland.
Nominated by the Congjiang Government, 25 teachers from the county’s rural areas will receive recognition for their outstanding contributions and each benefit from a cash subsidy in addition to a three-day expenses-paid trip to Macau.
“Melco is greatly honored for this opportunity to contribute to the targeted poverty alleviation in Congjiang County as supported by the Liaison Office and the Macao Government,” said Lawrence Ho, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, as cited in a press release issued by the company.
“Through recognition of the teachers’ outstanding contributions to education, it is hoped that the program will help broaden horizons and benefit the teachers’ professional development, as well as positively impact and inspire students whom they teach,” the statement added.
Sands China donates to higher education to benefit 100 local students
For the 13th consecutive year, Sands China Ltd. has made a donation to six local tertiary education institutions for scholarships and fellowships, continuing its annual tradition of supporting higher education in Macau.
The MOP1 million in total donations was presented to representatives of the educational institutions at a cheque presentation ceremony on September 5 at The Venetian Macao.
According to Sands China, the annual donation is a testament to the company’s support of local students, in acknowledgement of the importance of higher education in nurturing Macau’s talent.
“The students of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. We believe in the importance of investing in the future of Macau, and have therefore offered annual scholarships and fellowships to improve students’ motivation,” said Wen Hongyan, senior vice president of human resources for Sands China.
With last week’s donation, Sands China’s total contribution toward scholarships and fellowships since 2006 now exceeds MOP10 million, benefitting over 1,200 students to date.
