Courts ‘Blue card’ revoked over drink-driving

A non-resident worker has had his visa revoked after being charged for driving under the influence. The Court of Final Appeal (TUI) recently rejected his request seeking to maintain his visa, which allowed him to work as a labor services manager in Macau.
He was caught driving under the influence and was charged with time in jail, in the form of a suspended sentence. The man also saw his driving license suspended.
The Public Security Police Force revoked his “blue card” (temporary stay permit), a decision he unsuccessfully appealed to the office of the Secretary for Security. The non-resident worker later appealed to TUI arguing that after his “blue card” was revoked he would immediately lose his job, with opportunities to further his career being put at risk. He added that he was seeking to further develop himself by building personal and professional relationships, and that his job was essential to his achieving such a goal.
However, the court argued he failed to prove that he was unable to further his career outside Macau, namely in mainland China. He also failed to prove that he could not survive without his income, due to lack of savings.
The court found his arguments to be vague, due to his inability to prove that losing his job would result in irreparable harm.
