CRIME | The revenge of the hammer man

A man was arrested on Sunday after using a hammer to assault a 54-year-old man, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) said yesterday in a press conference.
The incident was registered by the PSP on August 29 when the victim filed a complaint against a unknown person who had allegedly attacked him at Estrada do Repouso around 5 p.m. when he was walking on the street.
It was impossible for the victim to identify the perpetrator of the crime  as he had been wearing a closed motorcycle helmet.
The attacker hit the victim several times with a hammer, injuring his hands, arms and torso.
After an investigation, the police identified and intercepted the suspect on September 4 around 3.15 p.m. at Rua da Pérola Oriental.
The suspect, a 40-year-old taxi driver, admitted the crime upon interrogation, justifying the attack as the result of an old dispute. He claimed to have been a victim of assault by the other man, which had allegedly caused head injuries.
The man decided not to press charges over the assault at the time, but in his eyes, the case remained unsolved. He added that he had spotted his alleged assailant while passing the Estrada do Repouso area last year, at which point he started to plan his revenge.
He bought the hammer, placed it inside his motorcycle storage compartment and waited for an opportunity to exact his revenge, which came at the end of August.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene and changed his clothes. These premeditated actions indicate extensive preparations. The suspect has been accused of offenses to physical integrity.

Indian tourist arrested over chocolate bar theft

An Indian tourist (23) was arrested by the PSP over the theft of a chocolate bar in a convenience shop at Rua do Almirante Sergio. When the storekeeper went into the shop’s storage room, the man in question took the opportunity to steal a chocolate bar worth MOP35 from the shelf, leaving the shop immediately afterwards. However, a police officer observed the entire incident from nearby. The man was arrested and delivered to the immigration authorities for further procedures.
