In response to the highly reported case in which a member of Macau’s security forces allegedly blackmailed teenage girls with their nude pictures, the Office of the Secretary for Security has released a statement outlining the Secretary for Security’s concern regarding the case and stressing that any illegal activities will not be tolerated. “The Secretary has also requested his departments to take the issue as a warning and to pay attention to the discipline of the personnel, strengthen the internal supervision, whilst handling any rule-breaching members stringently”, said that statement.
The Public Security Police (PSP) has also issued a statement, admitting that the suspect has joined the force this year and is a member of the PSP’s Police Tactical Intervention Unit. It said that the man has already been placed under preventative suspension. “The police, as a law enforcing department, will never tolerate any illegal activities, let alone those actions that threaten the reputation and dignity of the police force”, the PSP statement read.
Due to the number and age of the potential victims, this extortion case has drawn immense attention from the media. Even some Hong Kong media outlets have given the case headline status. In addition, a woman has called a TDM radio program yesterday, claiming that she is the mother of one of the victims and was only aware of the incident after being informed by the Judiciary Police. She thanked the authorities and said she would not have known the truth without police investigation.
