David Chow’s Cape Verde project green lighted

The Minister of Tourism, Investment and Business Development of Cape Verde is due to visit China later this month to sign a contract for tourism investment with Macau businessman David Chow, reported Cape Verdean weekly newspaper A Semana.
The paper said that the minister, who is due to travel on 23 July, will sign the contract for the Cape Verde Integrated Resort & Casino, a luxury project being built on the islet of Santa Maria, near Praia, which will require an investment of about USD250 million.
The construction works for this project, “which promises to be the investment that will radically change the face, life, and economy of Praia and the country” and which is currently under public consultation, are due to start in 2016.
Last June, the Cape Verdean press reported the Macau businessman planned to visit Cape Verde in early July, on the occasion of the festivities of Independence (5 July), “but only if the government had managed to conclude the environmental impact study.”
At that time Minister Leonesa Fortes gave assurances that David Chow was still interested in the venture, which includes a luxury hotel, an international convention center, a marina and a bridge connecting the islet to the mainland, in addition to renewing the entire coastline in the Gamboa area, completely changing the face of that part of the Cape Verdean capital.  MDT/Macauhub
