Education | Parents ‘panicked’ by waiting list interval

2-Kindergarten-Children-ShowDataServletLocal parents and teachers are calling for revisions to Macau’s new centralized kindergarten registration system, claiming that the release of advice at different times for students who have been accepted and for those who have been placed on the waiting list causes “panic”.
The publication of those children who have made waiting lists as prospective students was published over the weekend however the publication of the names of students who were admitted and to which kindergartens had been made weeks before. Parents are now calling for the simultaneous release of both admission and waiting lists.
“Out of six kindergartens, my kid was not admitted to three. However, these schools never notify the parents about the results or your position on the waiting list,” one parent told public broadcaster TDM. “This will make parents feel a little panicked.”
According to TDM, DSEJ says that it is open to improving the registration system, however such improvements will not include the possibility of a simultaneous release of admission and waiting lists.
They are, however, considering whether or not to shorten the time between when kindergartens are required to announce their admissions and waiting lists.
DSEJ also has no plans to expand the current limit of six school applications per candidate, adding that this year as many as 70 percent of parents registered their children at all six schools, while almost all the candidates selected at least three.
“Last year, 90 percent of the parents registered for six or fewer schools. We find that setting six schools as the maximum will satisfy the needs of most parents,” Kong Chi Meng, the chief of DSEJ’s Division of Pre-School and Primary Education, told TDM.
