Two elderly women were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a residential flat in Lok Kuan late Sunday evening, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on the 11th floor of the building. Firefighters responding to the scene found a washing machine on the balcony of the flat engulfed in flames. The blaze also caused damage to the surrounding walls.
According to fire officials, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit in the washing machine’s electrical wiring.
Two residents, aged 70 and 90, were taken to the hospital for treatment of discomfort and cardiac issues after inhaling thick smoke. They were reported to be in stable condition.
During the incident, 24 people evacuated the building on their own.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it could spread to other units. VC
