Exclusive bus lane trial went smoothly

coluna-IMG_0770The exclusive bus lane, running from Barra to Doca Lam Mau, commenced operations on a trial basis on Saturday. Authorities felt that test ran smoothly in spite of the approximately 250 unauthorized vehicles that drove on bus lane by mistake, according to a report by Macao Daily News. The police did not issue tickets to the drivers, only warnings. The Transport Bureau reminded the public that cameras have been placed along the bus  lane, and that unauthorized driving through it can result in a fine of MOP600.

Secondary checkpoint system planned

Security forces in Macau have announced that they want to install an independent computer system to reduce the reliance on a single system for immigration clearance. They say that an additional system would lessen the impact of a system malfunction. Last month, the passenger clearance system at Macau’s immigration border checkpoints crashed and was not operational for around two hours, leading to significant delays for travellers. According to a statement from the Government Information Bureau last week, a backup system has been designed for immigration services and was tested at the beginning of the year. It was not in operation at the time of the crash, though the statement did not clarify why this was the case.
