ExCo | 33,000 students to receive textbook subsidy

Around 33,000 university students will benefit from a MOP3,000 textbook subsidy, Executive Council spokesman Leong Heng Teng revealed yesterday. The public administration expects to spend MOP99 million on this subsidy scheme, which is valid for the 2015/2016 school year.
At a press conference yesterday, Leong Heng Teng explained the criteria for eligibility, which are the same as in the previous school year. Students can apply for the scheme if they are local residents undertaking higher education programs that confer academic titles or are not less than two years long. The scheme applies to both local and overseas universities, but the latter must be recognized in Macau. Students have until the end of May to apply.
The Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES) will assess the applicants and coordinate the distribution of  subsidies.
Each subsidy will be paid in a single installment through a bank transfer or voucher, which will be issued by the Financial Services Bureau (DSF).
