Galaxy Macau launched it fourth art exhibition since 2021 “Artists-in-residence: Summer Love” which showcases 15 exclusive canvases from five different artists; two from Macau and three from Hong Kong.
Around 100 people attended the launch, including the five artists Samantha Cheung, Kristopher Ho and Bao Ho from Hong Kong, along with Macau graffiti aritsts MCZ and PIBG.
“We will hold similar events in Galaxy Macau in the future as we believe that it is really important to provide a platform which showcases the creativity and culture of Hong Kong and Macau,” Galaxy’s chief operations officer, Kevin Kelley, said.
In April, people have been able to watch the artists creating their artworks, sometimes over many weeks. This was the case with Cheung three acrylic paints, which is a story in calligraphy that took 14 days to complete.
“I really want my work to be considered as on open book and a love story during summer,” Cheung explained. “It was the first time I painted in color and it was super fun. I’m really proud and happy with the result.”
With a completely different style, the graffiti-artist MCZ, whose many creations can be found in Macau’s streets, created three different canvases that display various colors of the warmth of summer.
“This is like a trip,” the artist explained. “I really focused on the emotions that the theme ‘Summer Love’ was giving me, and I expressed it through the art.”
His artwork “Treats” is inspired by the Hong Kong flag, using the color palette and the form of its floral emblem bauhinia, but there are also many references to Macau in the artist’s creations, such as blooming lotus flowers in the Bao Ho’s acrylic paint “Love Across the Sea,” where the Chinese goddess of the sea Mazu holds in her palm a junk boat, symbolizing the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Macau.
In the spirit of collaboration, the five artists also created the collaborative artwork “Summer Love,” with each one bringing his or her own style, before they all signed it to conclude the ceremony.
The exhibition will be held until the end of June, and the artists will be occasionally in attendance to explain their works.
