To date, the government has held 25 sessions to gather public and sectorial opinion regarding the region’s first Five-Year Development Plan, according to a statement released by the Government Information Bureau.
The Five-Year Development Plan proposes a blueprint for the city’s socio-economic development between 2016 and 2020.
Opinions expressed during the 25 consultation sessions covered community healthcare, specialist medical training, road and transport infrastructure, urban planning and the use of technology in services for elderly people.
Regarding the tourism sector, several points were raised about the need for further efforts to attract visitors to neighborhoods outside the city’s tourist hotspots as well as the desirability of launching more tourism products related to maritime travel.
Attendees at the public consultation also called for more passenger flights in order to attract more international visitors.
In relation to social affairs, comments during the consultation process covered increasing support for people with special needs, improving access to buildings and public spaces for physically handicapped individuals, additional support for the elderly, and the benefits of a two-tier social security system.
Regarding the local economy, topics submitted for discussion included the need to specify goals concerning non-gaming offerings at local resorts, the promotion of the financial services sector, and support for the growth of the city’s MICE sector.
