The government met with representatives from different sectors and associations last week to discuss how to increase workers in various sectors by enabling the hiring of non-resident workers (TNR).
The meeting was revealed by the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, during the press conference about the resumption of mainland tour groups.
Responding to media, Lei said the government is currently examining the shortage of workers to understand which job vacancies can be easily filled with the recruitment of TNR.
He said that over the past three years, 40,000 TNR have left Macau either because of the lack of jobs or because of the government’s decision not to renew the workers’ permits (blue cards) to prioritize local residents’ access to jobs during times in which the unemployment rate was high.
“We will be pragmatic; we will analyze and we will certainly support the local SMEs [small and medium enterprises],” Lei remarked.
Concurrently, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) has announced that, together with the six gaming concessionaires, it will organize recruitment activities this month with the aim of offering 1,166 jobs in the integrated resorts to Macau residents.
The jobs include receptionist, waiter, chef, public attendant, driver and lifeguard roles as well as several managerial positions.
The six sessions will be conducted individually and candidates can register online to participate in these sessions, which started yesterday and will be held until Feb. 26.
