Hengqin | International Court of Arbitration established

The International Court of Arbitration of the Hengqin New Area was established yesterday. A Zhuhai representative said that the organization is designed to meet the demands of future growth trends in the area, which enjoys favorable trade and investment policies.
Arbitration, a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), is a technique for the resolution of disputes outside the courts.
According to Gao Shulin, who oversees the Zhuhai Arbitration Committee, Hengqin is a “special area” – where goods, capital, talent and skills operate freely. He said that with the greater convenience in trade and investment as well as the variety of favorable policies applied to Hengqin, the number of international and business disputes would inevitably increase.
Gao believes that arbitration is important in an international context, and that setting up the institution in Hengqin is vital to elevating the area’s business environment to international standards.
The arbitration rules will be modeled upon the Arbitration Rules of China’s International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, with reference to the advanced arbitration rules and philosophies from international arbitration centers in Hong Kong, Singapore, Stockholm, etc., and combined with the actual situation of Hengqin.
Currently, international arbitration centers have been set up at Qianhai in Shenzhen and Nansha in Guangzhou. GY
