The second phase of the expansion of the Hengqin Port border crossing is ready to enter its trial period, which will be begin at the end of this month, the Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak said yesterday.
The Secretary was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a committee meeting at the Legislative Assembly where the new law that will regulate gun possession, use, and other related items is being discussed in detail.
According to Wong, phase 2 of the expansion of the Port has been in testing since early June and will now enter the final testing phase with a trial period in real conditions.
The Secretary noted that after this last test, the Port’s new border crossing system would be fully implemented, but that this would not happen immediately, as authorities must first guarantee the smooth and stable operation of the system.
Wong also noted that the access bridge connecting the University of Macau to Hengqin Port construction has been completed, but still needs to undergo some rectification works. He hopes both projects can begin operation simultaneously. RM
