Ho Iat Seng, president of the Legislative Assembly (AL), indicated in an interview with TDM that he wants to retire from the local legislature after the current AL term concludes in 2017. He also denied the rumor that he will be running as a candidate for the Chief Executive elections in the future.
The AL president said that his greatest wish is to finish the legislation of the Budget Law in the remaining three years of this tenure. He also criticized the current practice, which allows the government to reallocate funds within a public project after the AL has approved the budget of the project, is unreasonable despite being legal.
Moreover, the AL president claimed that “it’s been quite enough” for him to take part in two terms of AL as well as one term in the Executive Council.
Ho Iat Seng hopes that there will be another AL member to take his position in the next AL as “the best thing for me is to retire”. He also rejected the idea to take part in the CE election in the future, saying that he is as old as the current CE Chui Sai On.
