Japanese couple allegedly involved in human trafficking may be in Macau

Several reports by foreign media have suggested that Mitsutoki Shigeta, a 24-year-old Japanese national, left Bangkok on Air Macau flight NX0879 last Thursday after the Thai police suspected him of international human trafficking.
The Thai authorities launched a search on a Bangkok condominium last Tuesday, where they found nine babies, nine Thai and Japanese child-minders and a pregnant woman.
An investigator also claimed that there were 14 children in total, with five of them already being taken out of Thailand. He said that the authorities are trying to gather more evidence and are interviewing witnesses.
A Thai lawyer who was present during the raid claimed that all the babies were fathered by a Japanese man and were born to surrogate mothers in Thailand.
He also claimed that the man loves the babies and spends thousands of dollars on them every month.
However, the police suspected that the case is related to cross-border human trafficking.
The immigration police at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport revealed that the man had already flown to Macau last Thursday, holding a Japanese passport. It is also alleged that the airport surveillance camera recorded that the man did have a baby with him.
Japanese authorities have also used the information available to try to investigate the identity of the Japanese citizen. It is reported that some Japanese reporters have already arrived in Hong Kong and are camping outside a residential building where they believe the man is living.
A report from the Oriental Express claimed that both the Hong Kong and Macau authorities have yet to receive a request from Thailand to help locate the man.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok Post reported yesterday that a Japanese woman linked to Mitsutoki Shigeta has fled the country, a police source confirmed on Saturday. She was identified as Yuka Unno, 27. MDT
