In accordance with the regulations, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) collected 39 boxes of surplus firecrackers, fireworks and rockets and destroyed them at Macau Peninsula’s fireworks area yesterday morning.
The firecrackers, fireworks, and rocket display on the Macau Peninsula and Taipa ended at midnight of February 6, the sixth day of the Lunar New Year.
According to the IAM, the total quantity of firecrackers, fireworks and rockets imported this year was 1,399 boxes, 61.4% fewer than 2020, while 39 boxes of surplus firecrackers, fireworks and rockets were destroyed, accounting for 2.8% of the total quantity imported this year.
The total number of visitors to the Macau fireworks display area this year was 24,233, an increase of 60% compared to 2020, while the total number of visitors to the Taipa fireworks display area was 29,344, an increase of 184% compared to 2020. The total number of injuries were fewer, with 11 in Macau and 41 in Taipa, a decrease of 36.6% compared to 2020, mostly sustaining slight injuries. JW
