Lawmaker wants claw machines monitored

Lawmaker Chan Hong wants the local government to monitor claw machines. In her interpellation to the local government, Chan, a lawmaker from the education sector, said that claw machines pose a “very bad” influence on young children and teenagers. She argued that claw machines, while being common in Macau, are addictive. Without oversight, they “will cause social problems.” In Chan’s opinion, claw machines are similar to slot machines. Players may unknowingly spend a lot of money and develop anxiety and depression. She wants the local government to monitor these machines in order to avoid the promotion of gambling to children and teenagers. She also wants the local government to implement measures to prevent claw machine addiction.
