The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, publicly praised his team yesterday as he approaches the end of his term. In a heartfelt address, Lei commended the dedication and professionalism displayed by his subordinates over the past few years, highlighting their contributions to Macau’s economic resilience.
As the current administration nears its conclusion (Dec. 19), Lei is set to step down alongside fellow secretaries Elsie Ao Ieong for Social Affairs and Culture, and Raimundo Rosário, Secretary for Transport and Public Works. Only André Cheong and Wong Sio Chak will continue in their respective roles as Secretary for Administration and Justice and Secretary for Security.
In instructions published in the SAR Gazette on December 5, Lei expressed gratitude to all personnel under his supervision. He specifically acknowledged the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) for its innovative strategies that have bolstered the tourism sector during challenging times. Despite the pandemic, MGTO has successfully attracted visitors, earning accolades such as “most satisfactory destination” for mainland tourists.
Lei also highlighted the achievements of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, which has played a crucial role in establishing new regulations while promoting non-gaming elements in licensing.
Furthermore, he noted the collaborative efforts of various bureaus that led to Macau being recognized as the “Best Asian Convention City” for two consecutive years.
Lei added that the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) has been instrumental in advancing high-tech industries and supporting traditional sectors through funding programs.
Lei is set to pass the baton to current DSEDT director Tai Kin Yip. Nadia Shaw
