The inauguration of the new Commissioner of Macau’s Fire Services (CB), Leung Iok Sam, was held yesterday at the Judiciary Police facilities in Cotai. The former deputy-commissioner has now become the head of the department.
Leung’s service officially started last Wednesday, having been assigned a one-year term. When speaking about the new leader, the Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, said that Leung is capable of dealing with the upcoming fire security challenges posed by the opening of several hotels and casinos next year. Wong also declared that he expects total cooperation between Leung and his team. “I hope the whole staff will support their new leader,” he said. The secretary repeatedly praised Leung for his previous “brilliant accomplishment in his work.” Raising the fact that 45,221 incidents occurred during 2015, he mentioned that he trusted the new commissioner to cut down on the overuse of ambulances.
Leung, who holds a master’s degree in mechatronics engineering, told the media about the measures taken recently by CB. He stressed that the department is purchasing new equipment, including several ambulances.
“We will technologically enhance the strength of our team,” he announced, adding that the department will also improve the professionalism of frontline workers and do better regarding the overuse of ambulances.
Leung Iok Sam joined CB in 1989. He also served in the Macau Security Forces Training College between 1998 and 2001.
