Local and Central governments refute accusations from US State Department

The SAR government and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macau have expressed their “strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition” to the US State Department’s most recent human rights report.
Describing the report as “self-styled” and containing “unfounded accusations and biased assertions,” both the local and the Central government representative accused the US of a repeated “blatant interference in China’s domestic affairs and in Macau’s internal matters.”
Addressing specifically the section where the report mentions the application of Law on Safeguarding National Security, the SAR government reaffirmed that this law “effectively upholds national security and the prosperity of Macau,” adding also that “Under the principle of ‘patriots governing Macau’, all sectors of society stand united to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests,” and reaffirming this to be both “the constitutional duty of Macau residents and the foundation of the MSAR’s stable development.”
