The Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Eastern Line that will link the Taipa Maritime Ferry Terminal at Pac On to the Border Gate, passing through Zone A of the new landfills, will be built in two separate sections, the government has announced.
According to the Public Works Bureau, this line construction will be divided into a southern section with a total length of 4.8 kilometers that links the current terminal at Taipa Line at Pac On to Zone A and a northern section with a total length of 2.9 kilometers, that will link Zone A to the Border Gate.
Each of these construction sections will be undertaken through a separate public tender, a process that according to government officials will save the government time and money.
A total of three underground LRT stations will be built in the southern section of the line, which will also include the underwater tunnel connecting Taipa Island to Zone A.
The longest construction period is expected to be 1,500 working days, being over five years of effective construction time, the deputy director of the Land and Urban Construction Bureau, Mak Tat Io explained in a presentation about the project to the public TV station.
In total, the Eastern Line will be almost eight kilometers long and will have a total of six LRT stations.
