Macau-Zhuhai joint fireworks show promises tech innovation

The Macau SAR government and the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government will stage their first joint fireworks show together above the sea area in front of Macau Tower and Zhuhai Hengqin Financial Island on 22 December in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region.
According to a joint statement from the two organizing entities, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, some 160,000 fireworks shells will be skyrocketed from four barges and 16 special-effect launching platforms in the 30-minute show.
On the night of the show, fireworks launching locations will be set on both sides of Sai Van Bridge. Two barges and eight special-effect launching platforms will be stationed on each of the two locations.
For the first time, 56 unmanned boats and 600 drones will be harnessed to form a range of characters and numeral patterns including “Macau and Zhuhai united as one family” (in Chinese characters) and the number “20”, as well as the images of the Ruins of St. Paul’s and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
The organizers said the show will “symbolize unity and celebration, bliss and prosperity.”
At a press conference held yesterday, MGTO director Helena de Senna Fernandes said that the collaborative debut with Zhuhai would present Macau’s largest-ever fireworks show.
Meanwhile, Director of the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, Yang Chuan, remarked that the fireworks show, although just a cultural event, represents deep collaboration of substantial significance. He hopes that this collaborative project will create a bridge for friendly exchange between the peoples of both places.
Foreseeing that more opportunities for wider and deeper cooperation will arise in the future, Yang also exhorted both sides to join hands in building a Greater Bay Area that celebrates culture. DB
