Majority of public housing buyers opt for three-bedroom units

A total of 271 public housing units have been sold under the latest application round for the 2019 public housing scheme, launched earlier this month.

According to official data, three-bedroom units are the most popular choice, with 191 units sold.

This is followed by 80 two-bedroom units, while no one-bedroom units have been selected so far.

The available public housing units are located in Edifício Tong Seng (Lot B4), Edifício Tong Chong (Lot B9), and Edifício Tong Kai (Lot B10) in Zone A.

The total supply consists of 3,017 units, comprising 760 one-bedroom units, 1,000 two-bedroom units, and 1,257 three-bedroom units.

As of now, 4,211 families have completed a substantive review for eligibility. Of these, 271 families have successfully selected their units.

Another 2,632 families have qualified after the review and are waiting to make their selections.

Meanwhile, 29 applications are in the process of completing legal procedures, 35 are still undergoing substantive reviews, 881 applications were deemed ineligible, 177 applicants have withdrawn, and 186 have had their rankings adjusted.

Among the 271 families that secured a unit, three-person households represent the largest group, totaling 105.

Two-person families account for 74, followed closely by 71 four-person families. There are also 19 five-person families and just two six-person families who have completed their selections.

For the Housing Bureau, the high demand for three-bedroom units suggests that larger families are prioritizing additional living space.

The bureau said it is monitoring the ongoing selection process, as the demand for larger units highlights the need for adaptable public housing options to meet the community’s needs. LV
