P003---MCE-launches-its-first-Local-SME-Day

Melco Crown Entertainment Limited (MCE) held its first SME Open Day yesterday. More than 300 SMEs in Food & Beverage and Hotel Operations Marketing were invited to attend and participate in business matching sessions to introduce their products and services to the MCE Supply Chain team.
According to the organizers, the event marked another milestone in the collaboration between MCE and local SMEs, one of the measures through which MCE is supporting the local government’s Five-Year Development  Plan.
The open day is reportedly the first initiative in the company’s Macau SME Procurement Development Program, and is part of a collaboration with the Macao Chamber of Commerce (MCC).
“Melco Crown Entertainment’s procurement policy has always been giving priority to local SMEs,” said Ted Chan, chief operating officer of MCE.
He added that MCE “will continue to organize open days and vendor experience tours for other categories in order to fulfill our goal of increasing the number of our SME vendors.”
Chan also noted that over 90 percent of local enterprises are SMEs.
A series of open days and vendor experience tours will be offered from June onwards, including an open day exclusively for young entrepreneurs.
MCE procurement policy states that when quality, pricing and other factors are equal among all the suppliers, MCE shall give priority to local SMEs.
“Such policy not only increases the opportunities in the current economy, but also promotes locally manufactured products, and encourages young entrepreneurs,” said MCC vice president Chui Yuk Lam.
The program is supported by the MacauEconomics Services (DSE), the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre.
DSE director Tai Kin Ip believes “the program also helps [boost] the synergy among small, medium and micro[-sized] enterprises and helps to integrate tourism and leisure corporations.” Staff reporter
