MPU launches ‘One country, two systems’ Study Base

The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) inaugurated its “One country, two systems” Study Base on July 15. The Study Base is a new initiative that the university has said is intended to support the implementation of government education policies on “loving the motherland and loving Macau,” the MPU said in a press statement.

The Study Base aims to cultivate patriotism in youth on multiple fronts, develop national education and tourism in synergy with each other, and link cross-disciplinary fields via an interlocking mechanism.

The inauguration ceremony featured the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elsie Ao Ieong, and the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR, Yan Zhichan, among others.

At the ceremony, the Rector of MPU, Professor Im Sio Kei, said that the two-way exchange of Macau students to the mainland and mainland students to Macau will become a new means of transmitting the spirit of “loving the motherland and loving Macau,” adding that MPU will “strive to build a series of activities into a national academic brand.”

The “One Country, Two Systems” Study Base will launch study programs for young students and disseminate experiences on implementing the “One country, two systems” in Macau through activities such as seminars, workshops, field visits and inspections. The Study Base aims to provide young students from all over the nation with a deeper understanding of the close relationship between Macau and the motherland, and the rich connotation of “One country, two systems.”

The intention is to deepen their sense of national pride, patriotism and sense of responsibility in building a strong country, and integrate them into building the nation and community, thus contributing to the long-term prosperity and stability of the country.
