Man sentenced to over 13 years in prison for fatal attack

A Macau resident has been sentenced to 13 years and 9 months in prison for a fatal stabbing in Gongbei back in 2023.

The Court of Final Appeal (TUI) revised the sentence after partially granting his appeal, which initially resulted in a 15-year prison term for homicide.

The incident occurred after a night out with friends at a restaurant and a mahjong establishment. A minor dispute escalated into a physical altercation. The man later retrieved a pair of scissors from a nearby shop and attacked the victim multiple times, causing fatal injuries.

Police and medical personnel arrived, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The attacker returned to Macau, sought medical treatment, and later attempted to leave but was intercepted by authorities.

Initially convicted of homicide under Article 128 of the Penal Code, he appealed, claiming he had no direct intent to kill.

The TUI ruled that his actions demonstrated “eventual intent” rather than “direct intent,” leading to a reduced sentence. However, the guilty verdict was upheld, and he remains sentenced to over 13 years in prison.
