General Views of Macau As Casino Revenue Falls 32% While China Curbs Hit VIP GamingMacau was ranked fourteenth in the latest league table established by the China Institute of City Competitiveness in terms of its overall competitiveness compared to other Chinese cities. This year, the region’s spot fell two places below last year’s.
The institute released the new rankings yesterday, placing Shanghai and Hong Kong in the first two places, followed by Shenzhen, Beijing and Guangzhou. However, the region’s distinctive travel features placed it second in another ranking on travel features.
Additionally, the MSAR also came third in another table for its efforts to safeguard and preserve cultural legacy.
However, the territory once again failed to reach the top 30 cities in terms of exploiting potential for sustainability. Nevertheless Macau came sixth in terms of domestic security, a factor that gives reassurance to investors.
Founded in 1998 in Hong Kong, the Institute of City Competitiveness assesses 289 Chinese cities. It began releasing rankings annually four years later with overseas and domestic scholars allegedly engaged in evaluations. The rankings were conducted using a system called the GN indicator system created by the group itself. AU
